Copy Path¶
Copy exactly the path format your next task needs — a POSIX path, file URL, or item name — without opening Get Info or Terminal.
- Access: Free
- Finder availability: Files & folders, Folder background
See the Copy Path overview and screenshots on the MenuSmith website.
Add and configure¶
- Open Action Library and find Copy Path.
- Choose a starter configuration and add it to My Finder Menu.
- Select the new Menu Action and review its settings and availability rules in the Inspector.
- Run it from a matching Finder context.
Settings¶
- Path Format
- Shell Escaping for POSIX paths
- Separator: Space, New Line, or Tab
Starter configurations¶
- Copy Path
- Copy Unescaped Path
- Copy File URL
- Copy Item Names
Starter configurations set initial values only. Adding one does not permanently link the Menu Action to that starter.
What it can do¶
- Copy one or many selected paths
- Separate copied items with spaces, new lines, or tabs
- Prepare POSIX paths for shell commands
- Copy only item names when full paths are unnecessary
Typical workflow¶
- Add the path style you use
- Select Finder items or right-click a folder background
- Run the Action and paste anywhere
Important details¶
- Copy Path starts with Space as its separator and Shell Escaping enabled. Copy Unescaped Path, Copy File URL, and Copy Item Names start with New Line.
- The separator is saved separately for each Menu Action. Changing Path Format or Shell Escaping does not change the chosen separator.
- A single item is copied without a separator, and no separator is added after the last item.
- The Action writes only to the clipboard and does not modify selected items.
If MenuSmith asks for access, review Authorized Folders. If the Action does not appear, check Finder Integration and the Menu Action's availability rules.
