Troubleshooting¶
MenuSmith is missing from Finder¶
- Choose Help > Getting Started from MenuSmith's menu bar and check the Finder extension step. If needed, choose Open System Settings and enable MenuSmith. You can also follow an Enable… or Fix… button shown in the app's sidebar.
- Confirm that My Finder Menu contains at least one Action.
- Check that an Action has an availability rule matching the current Finder context.
- Check Settings > Advanced > Finder Visibility. If you use Specific locations, make sure the current folder is covered, or switch to Everywhere on this Mac.
- Check Finder Menu Behavior: Actions may appear directly in Finder's shortcut menu or inside the MenuSmith submenu.
- Close and reopen the Finder window.
The Finder toolbar button is missing¶
In Finder, choose View > Customize Toolbar and drag MenuSmith into the toolbar. The button shows Actions that match the current selection or folder. See Finder Toolbar for the Current Folder option.
An Action is missing for a selection¶
Select the Menu Action in My Finder Menu and inspect its availability rules. File selections, folder selections, and folder backgrounds are separate contexts. A file-type requirement can also hide the Action when the selection contains an unsupported item.
MenuSmith asks for folder access¶
This is expected for Actions that create or change files. Use the macOS folder picker to authorize the requested folder. MenuSmith Action continues when access is granted. If saved access is no longer valid, the Action asks for the folder again; there is no separate access-management panel in Settings. See Authorized Folders.
An Action stopped or skipped an item¶
Review the result shown by MenuSmith. A source item may be unavailable, cloud-only, changed since a review, unsupported, or outside an Authorized Folder. MenuSmith reports these items without silently treating them as completed.
A Pro Action is locked¶
Open Settings > MenuSmith Pro to check your plan or choose Restore Purchases using the Apple Account that completed the purchase. Importing or restoring a menu setup does not unlock Pro Actions.
Return to an earlier menu setup¶
Open Settings > Backups, choose a saved backup, and review the restore confirmation. Restore replaces the current setup. With Automatic Safety Backups on, MenuSmith backs it up first; with the option off, you can choose whether to keep a safety backup. A menu backup cannot undo file changes made by an Action.
Collect support information¶
Open Settings > Advanced > Support & Diagnostics. You can export a sanitized report or prepare a local support package, review it, and save or attach it to an email draft. MenuSmith does not automatically upload or send diagnostics. Use the contact form for an initial question, and include the short support reference if one is shown.
