Convert Images¶
Create clean format copies directly from Finder. Choose JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, or TIFF, then keep a reusable Menu Action for the format you use.
- Access: Free
- Finder availability: Raster images, including PSD
See the Convert Images overview and screenshots on the MenuSmith website.
Add and configure¶
- Open Action Library and find Convert Images.
- Choose a starter configuration and add it to My Finder Menu.
- Select the new Menu Action and review its settings and availability rules in the Inspector.
- Run it from a matching Finder context.
Settings¶
- Output Format
Starter configurations¶
- Convert to JPEG
- Convert to PNG
- Convert to WebP
- Convert to HEIC
- Convert to TIFF
Starter configurations set initial values only. Adding one does not permanently link the Menu Action to that starter.
What it can do¶
- Create JPEG copies with broad compatibility
- Create lossless PNG or TIFF copies
- Create efficient WebP or HEIC copies
- Preserve transparency where the destination format supports it
Typical workflow¶
- Add a destination format
- Select one or more raster images
- Run the Action to create converted copies
Important details¶
- Appears only when every selected item is a supported raster image file. Folders and unsupported file types prevent the Action from appearing.
- Images already in the destination format are silently left unchanged, including when the whole selection already uses that format.
- A destination format that does not support transparency cannot preserve an alpha channel.
- MenuSmith keeps the source image unchanged.
If MenuSmith asks for access, review Authorized Folders. If the Action does not appear, check Finder Integration and the Menu Action's availability rules.
