Change Filename Case¶
Make selected file and folder names consistent from Finder. Choose a familiar capitalization style or a developer-friendly naming convention, while keeping each file’s final extension unchanged.
- Access: Free
- Finder availability: Files & folders
See the Change Filename Case overview and screenshots on the MenuSmith website.
Add and configure¶
- Open Action Library and find Change Filename Case.
- Choose a starter configuration and add it to My Finder Menu.
- Select the new Menu Action and review its settings and availability rules in the Inspector.
- Run it from a matching Finder context.
Settings¶
- Change case to
- Confirm Bulk Rename
- Threshold
Starter configurations¶
- Change to Title Case
- Change to lowercase
- Change to UPPERCASE
- Change to Sentence case
- Change to camelCase
- Change to PascalCase
- Change to snake_case
- Change to kebab-case
Starter configurations set initial values only. Adding one does not permanently link the Menu Action to that starter.
What it can do¶
- Rename one item or a selection of files and folders
- Choose from eight capitalization and word styles
- Preserve the exact final extension of files
- Ask for confirmation before larger rename operations
Typical workflow¶
- Add the naming-style starter you want
- Review Change case to and the bulk confirmation settings in the Inspector
- Select files or folders in Finder and run the Action
- Confirm when the number of items exceeds your configured threshold
Important details¶
- This Action renames the original items and requires Authorized Folder access to their parent folders.
- Confirm Bulk Rename is enabled by default and asks when more than 10 items are selected; you can change or disable the threshold.
- Conflicting names are skipped rather than overwriting existing items.
- Only each file’s final extension is preserved; folder names are converted in full. This is not a search-and-replace or numbering tool.
If MenuSmith asks for access, review Authorized Folders. If the Action does not appear, check Finder Integration and the Menu Action's availability rules.
